Margaux
Rich, smooth and complex, this 29 year old whisky was distilled in February 1995, the month Dr Bill joined Glenmorangie as then Distillery Manager, and was initially matured in ex-bourbon casks. In 2004, Dr Bill transferred the whisky into a selection of red wine casks from Margaux, one of the most famous appellations in Bordeaux, France.
Matured in wine casks for over 20 years – longer than any other Glenmorangie – its creation reveals intense notes of chocolate, plums and sweet chilli.
ABV: 52.5% | Colour: Dark auburn.A sharp, tingling and warming texture leads to an explosion of ripe fruit flavours: apricot, peach, plum, cherry, baked red apple, juicy melon, followed by chocolate ganache, hints of ginger and sweet chilli, but always with a balancing tartness reminiscent of cherry and citrus.
Corton-Charlemagne
The only whisky in the trio matured in white wine casks, this spicy, smooth and rich 28 year old was also distilled in 1995. It was first matured in bourbon casks, then transferred in 2005 to white Burgundy casks - all grand cru status - from the prestigious Corton-Charlemagne appellation in Burgundy, France. This was Glenmorangie’s first experiment with these casks, and Dr Bill was intrigued by how they would shape his smooth, signature style.
Matured in these casks for over 18 years, this whisky is infused with notes of jasmine, soft smoke and clove.
ABV: 52.1% | Colour: Deep AmberThe texture is smooth and buttery, coating the mouth with delicious, sweet and spicy flavours such as honeycomb, poached pears in syrup, cocoa powder and spiced fruit bread. The sweetness continues with hints of almond marzipan and morello cherry.
Barbaresco
Dry, robust and rich, this 27 year old whisky was distilled in 1996 and matured in ex-bourbon casks. In 2005, Dr Bill transferred a select batch into prestigious Italian red wine casks sourced from Barbaresco, in the famous Piedmont wine region. These casks had never been used at the distillery before – and he imagined the deep, luscious flavours they could bring to Glenmorangie.
After an exceptionally long finish, lasting over 18 years, his experiment is filled with leathery undertones.
ABV: 51.3% | Colour: MahoganyThe mouthfeel is huge, spicy and slightly dry, leading to a wealth of complex flavours. Chocolate sweetness is softened by the dryness of grape must, as well as hints of leather, mint toffee, Christmas cake, ginger, nutmeg and clove. The classic Glenmorangie citrus note is like candied orange peel.
